After reading the play outline I appreciated how faithful the film was. This heartbreaking tale sets up a premise that we all know the inevitable outcome too, but like Momma, we fight to make sure it doesn't happen. Art - Culture - Dance - Film - Food - Music - Style - Theatre. Jessie is middle-aged in the play, but Brownfield is closer in age to Jessie’s young adult son. At the start, Jessie announces she is going to commit suicide, and the play unfolds real-time, making the 90-minute show the same duration as the play’s action. Mother Night is brave, uncompromising, insightful and delicately moving.

Her relentlessly flat affect is tedious, leaving one to wonder if director Sarah McPartland ever attended a rehearsal.
